Canine Buddies educational dog centre, dog rescue shelter, and kennels, launched in Kincullia, Loughrea, last week, aims to promote responsible dog ownership and the ethical treatment of all animals.

It will be lonely this Christmas for a number of dogs in the Galway area as the Connemara-based charity MADRA struggles to contend with the sudden increase of abandoned dogs being reported in the area. Kennel vacancies and other resources are being stretched at the charity and the number of calls being received by MADRA about neglected dogs is now averaging at 50 per day.

A dog adoption day will take place this weekend at Trusty Pet Pals dog day care centre in Briarhill Business Park. The event, organised by MADRA Mutts Anonymous Dog Rescue and Adoption, will take place on Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

As many as 20 rescue dogs were settling in to their new homes over the weekend thanks to a 24-hour dog adoption drive organised by local charity MADRA.
